Good thinking, George!  Good to have lead time.  Tell your mother that you can talk to her with video on Skype or Gmail (and get her a webcam if she doesn't have one!).  And tell her you will want her to come and visit you!

You probably wouldn't establish any seniority by staying in Ontario--you have to have a regular appointment to get seniority, and a regular appointment is rare these days.  I've heard no complaints at all from the people who have traveled to teach in other countries.
